Link_aj 2 years ago #4. Even then, they will only appear on. The type of garbage you use doesn't seem to affect whether a fly will spawn, but it has to be raw garbage, not anything crafted from cans, boots, or tires.

To catch a bug, you'll need to equip your net! Ants spawn very frequently and flies are much rarer. Removing the trees that were ~4 spaces away from it fixed the issue though, hopefully this helps someone else.
